There’s garlic bread and there’s Italian garlic bread… what’s the difference? Not much! The fact is that garlic bread is an extremely easy recipe to make and only requires a few basic ingredients.
What Makes Italian Garlic Bread Taste Amazing?

Very simple. It comes down to the quality and type of ingredients.

For example, there’s garlic powder… and there’s fresh garlic from the store (or garden). There’s typical sandwich bread, and there’s Italian artisan bread. There’s pure olive oil (tasteless), and there’s extra virgin olive oil.

See what I’m getting at? Fresh ingredients are key to any amazing Italian recipe.

This recipe doesn’t take long to prepare or to bake. You’ve got to make sure you don’t let the bread burn, which I am guilty of. So set your timers and don’t forget to check it!

In addition, I’ve found that using foil around the bread helps keep it from baking too unevenly. It helps keep the inside moist and the crust nice and crisp.
What Type of Bread?

If wondering what type of bread you should use, don’t worry too much about that.

Every standard grocery store has a fresh bakery and you can pull almost anything from their fresh loaves.

To keep it real, stick to the white artisan breads, not the breads that have kalamata olives, rosemary and other flavors that can totally offset the intent behind your garlic bread.

That’s not to say those breads won’t taste good, (I love the kalamata breads), but we want a basic, simple Italian garlic bread recipe and that’s what this recipe delivers.

Garlic Bread Recipe
A simple, easy recipe for Italian garlic bread.
Course Side Dish

Ingredients

loaf Italian or French bread
2 TBLE melted butter (optional if you must)
3-4 TBLE extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves minced garlic

Instructions

Preheat oven to 450F or broil.
Slice bread in length wise on its side so you have 2 long pieces of bread, the top and the bottom. (As if you were filleting the bread)
Melt the butter and mix with the olive oil and garlic. Mix well with spoon or fork.
Spread on the open side of the bread with a brush or spoon. Do your best to even it out but don't worry about it too much
Place bread face up on baking pan and place in oven.
Bake at 450 or at broil for about 5 minutes.
Keep checking bread until it is the right amount of crispness. Some people like it slightly toasted while others like it very toasted and browned. So judge for your own preference, but be careful to keep a close eye on the bread that it doesn't burn since it is at such a high temperature.
When finished, remove from oven and slice into desired thickness. 1 inch thickness is pretty typical, but do what you prefer.

Recipe Notes

TIP #1: Prepare this recipe when you are not doing a ton of things at once because it is easy to forget about. And before you know it, you'll see the smoke coming from the oven and the fire alarm will sound. What? No of course this has never happened to me!

TIP #2: To keep the bread warm after baking/toasting, wrap in tin foil and set aside until ready to serve.

TIP 3#: To cut down on fat and calories, omit the butter. It will still taste amazing.
